No-plough farming could reduce agriculture generated greenhouse gasses by 30%

When the farming soil is broken by a plough, before sowing, air pockets are created in the ground. In these air pockets, microbes convert carbon stored in the soil to carbon dioxide. Other greenhouse gasses are generated as well.

By drilling holes for the seeds instead of ploughing, the carbon remains in the ground. In total agriculture using the drilling method generates 30% less green house gasses.

Because of the initial investment and initial lower productivity this method is rarely used in Europe. Average productivity over a period of 10 years is the same as using traditional ploughing.
