Life without oxygen and light (update)

Bacteria have been found in water encapsulated in an antartic ice lake.
The water is deep beneath a 12 meter thick ice crust where light can't reach it and there's no oxygen.
It has been isolated from the outside world for several thousands of years.
The temperature is -13°C and the water is six times as salt as seawater.
The bacteria have a very slow metabolism and take 120 years to reproduce.
The discovery was made by boffins of Chicago University and the Nevada Desert Research Institute (wonder how these guys got lost in Antarctica).

spider silk worms

US genetic engineers have modifed silk worms to produce spider silk. This may open the way for industrial production of spider silk. Spider silk has high elasticity and tensile strength. It is stronger for a given weight than the Kevlar widely used in body armour. More...http://newsinfo.nd.edu/news/16934/

single molecule robot

Researchers have made a single walking DNA molecule, that can be guided over a track.
The molecule has 4 tentacles that bind to the vertical sticks on the track. They cut the stick (short sticks at the left) and bind to the next stick, dragging the molecule along to the red target at the right.
They're imagining future one molecule nanobots for packet delivery (medicine) and factories in the future.
